What is Vyvanse?
Vyvanse is a central nervous system stimulant. It affects chemicals in the brain and nerves that contribute to hyperactivity and impulse control. Vyvanse is FDA-approved to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in adults and in children who are at least 6 years old. Vyvanse is also used to treat moderate to severe binge eating disorder in adults. This medicine is not to be used for obesity or weight loss.
Before taking this medicine
You should not use Vyvanse if you are allergic to lisdexamfetamine or any component of the formulation.
Do not use Vyvanse if you have taken an MAO inhibitor in the past 14 days. A dangerous drug interaction could occur. MAO inhibitors include isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue injection, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, tranylcypromine, and others.
Stimulants have caused stroke, heart attack, and sudden death in certain people. Tell your doctor if you have:
- heart problems or a congenital heart defect;
- high blood pressure; or
- a family history of heart disease or sudden death.
To make sure this medicine is safe for you, tell your doctor if you or anyone in your family has ever had:
- depression, mental illness, bipolar disorder, psychosis, or suicidal thoughts or actions;
- kidney disease;
- coronary artery disease (clogged arteries);
- blood circulation problems in the hands or feet; or
- drug or alcohol addiction.
How should I take Vyvanse?
Take Vyvanse exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow all directions on your prescription label. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose. Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.
Lisdexamfetamine may be habit-forming. Never share Vyvanse with another person, especially someone with a history of drug abuse or addiction. Keep the medication in a place where others cannot get to it. Selling or giving away this medicine is against the law.
Take Vyvanse with or without food, first thing in the morning.
Read all patient information, medication guides, and instruction sheets provided to you. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.
The chewable tablet must be chewed before you swallow it.
Do not crush, chew, break, or divide a Vyvanse capsule. Swallow the capsule whole.
To make swallowing easier, you may open the capsule and sprinkle the medicine into a glass of water or orange juice, or mix it with yogurt. After the medicine has dissolved, drink or eat the mixture right away. Do not save for later use.

What should you not do while on Vyvanse?
Notes for Consumers: Limit caffeine intake (examples: coffee, teas, colas, chocolate and some herbal supplements) while taking this medicine. Also avoid medicines containing additional caffeine whenever possible. Side effects may get worse if you take excessive caffeine.
How long after taking Vyvanse is it most effective?
Vyvanse is taken as a once-daily oral medication in the morning. The peak effects of dextroamphetamine from either the capsule or tablet formulation are reached in about 3.5 to 4.5 hours. Avoid afternoon or evening doses because it can interfere with sleep.

Amphetamines such as Vyvanse can cause a feeling of euphoria or intense happiness if you take them in large doses. They can also help you feel more focused and alert. Jusqu’à présent, j’ai pris le médicament pendant environ 3 jours. J’ai remarqué que je n’avais pas du tout faim. Je dois me forcer à manger. Depuis quelques jours seulement que je prends ce médicament, j’ai perdu 9 livres. C’est une mauvaise chose. Je vais devoir en parler avec mon doc. Cela me permet de me concentrer sur la tâche à accomplir. Je mettrai à jour dans un mois quand j’irai voir mon médecin pour savoir comment ça s’est passé avec ce médicament.

I started this medication 3 months ago. It works very well and helps me to concentrate and function, but I developed some unpleasant side effects because of it. I now have Raynaud’s, and I experience joint pain and pins and needles in my skin since going to 40mg. I will be talking to my doctor about switching, but other than the side effects, it’s worth it to try! My 10 year old is also on it and has had no side effects. It helps him so much!
